Friday's Food for Thought: GMO, FDA and You Edition

alfalfa-litte-rascalsHere at Al Dente Blog our eyes are never too big for our stomach: We devour the food world news all week long, including the stories that give us heartburn. Here are some of the bits that caught our eye this week, plus some noteworthy items we've heard folks talking up around the virtual water cooler.

*Why Aren't GMO Foods Labeled? Mark Bittman for the New York Times.

*Forbes Writer: GMO Labeling Would Violate Corporate Speech Rights via Grist.

*FDA Says Antibiotics in Meat 'A Serious Public Health Threat' via the Huffington Post.

*Modified Alfalfa Wars via the Atlantic.

*U.S. Expects to See Food Prices Rise via Wall Street Journal.

*Recipe of the Week: Alfalfa Tea (for Your Garden).

*Tool of the Week: Watering Cans.

What's your take on labeling GMO foods?

Have a great weekend and eat well, my friends?

I am not afraid of the GMO boogieman. The human race has been messing with food genetics since the Sumerians decided to start saving the best wheat seeds to plant next year instead of harvesting it in the wild. Therefore I don't think there should be another food labeling requirement for GMO. If food purists think it's necessary, incorporate non-GMO into the labeling requirements for "organic."
