Around the World in 80 Recipes
I had the chance to sample Venezuelan food for the first time this past weekend. How is it that I've been missing arepas all these years?
Arepas are made out of the finely ground corn, fashioned into a pancake of sorts and grilled over a fire or baked on a hot griddle. In Venezuela it is eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner, stuffed with eggs, cheese or meat. It's the snack of choice too. How could I have been so unaware? And what other classic dishes have I not yet had the opportunity to taste?
Some of those answers can be found in Anya Von Bremzen's The Greatest Dishes! Around the World in 80 Recipes. Von Bremzen has traveled the globe and gathered together what she considers to be the most iconic and delicious dishes in the world, from apple pie to wiener schnitzel and everything in between, (including ceviche, pot-au-feu, trifle, and yes, even arepas).
I've owned this book for years and whenever I page through it, I vow to try out every single recipe. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened--yet! I also wonder what recipes I might add to those 80, to make the list a cool 100.
What recipes would you include in a book that spans the globe for the greatest dishes in the world?
