Forget McDonald's and soda--oats are the reason for our country's obesity epidemic. The proof is right there in the copy. Not convinced? In 1987, Wilford Brimley was the spokesperson for Quaker Oats. Now he has "diabeetus". Coincidence? I think not.

Brimley was diagnosed with diabetes 30 years ago (source: http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/dec/19/actor-wilford-brimley-surprised-award-american-dia/), well before the Quaker Oats commercials.

Actually, proper rolled oats are low GI and a good choice of breakfast cereal for diabetics. They are also low fat so hardly likely to be a major cause of obesity. Now, the sugar, butter and syrup that people often add to them can be a cause for both diabetes and obesity.
