Tweeting for Your Supper
It's my last brief look at food trends in 2009. And I'm still amazed that the biggest trend of them all had nothing, actually, to do with food.
The social media phenomenon known as twitter changed the game for those of us who love to eat. Through twitter I met dozens of other food fanciers, not just virtually, but in person as well. Thanks to twitter I learned of local cookbook signings and food photography classes I otherwise would never have known about. I've gotten restaurant suggestions from twitter followers and recipe help as well. And I first heard about the demise of Gourmet Magazine from a tweet.
The food community, whether eager enthusiast or long-time professional, is a knowledgeable and generous bunch. Twitter brought them, us, together in a way the real world was never able to. If you haven't yet joined twitter and its food community, why not give it a try in 2010.
