The Little Black Dress of the Kitchen
"I think I'll serve soup," my friend Juana said to me over lunch last week, as we lamented the last days of summer and planned for fall.
It's an easy way to entertain. A pot or two of soup. Some crusty bread with good butter or cheese. A salad, if need be. And a fruity cobbler or crumble to finish off the night.
When you're making soup to stave off the cold, what do you reach for? A squat soup pot or a tall stockpot?
I have both, mostly hand-me-downs, in a variety of sizes. I don't play favorites. But that may change soon. I have my eye on this charcoal matte number, simple, yet chic. It's the little black dress of the kitchen and just right for fall entertaining.

I love my Le Creuset French Oven! I use it for most of my soups--although it's only 5 quarts, I find that it's usually big enough. It's sturdy and heats evenly, plus the enameled surface is super easy to clean. http://www.amazon.com/Creuset-Enameled-Cast-Iron-2-Quart-French/dp/B00004SBH4
