Lose Weight with Sugar

I can't wait to start the sugar diet. Peanut butter cups before lunch; cookies before dinner; ice cream before breakfast. It's going to be awesome! And I'm going to get really skinny because sugar is all energy, the more I eat, the more energy I'll have.

From the picture, I'm guessing that's a 1960's vintage ad... or, at least, I sure hope it's not contemporary!!!!

OMG! Where did you find that? I sure hope it's a vintage ad. But hey, we used to think DDT was a good thing, too, huh.

Finally! A diet that speaks to me!

"Just eat one or two Ayds 30 minutes before dinner with a cup of black coffee or tea..."

I am 59 and I remember that campaign. A tsp of granulated sugar has (it was said) 18 calories and a couple of them before eating would take teh edge off your appetite, so you would net eat fewer calories.
Probably the enamel off your teeth, in time, as well, but... whatever.

Right, today we know Africans dying of malaria is great and DDT is awful. How foolish we were to ever think otherwise.

Now a bit of sugar water daily keeps the cravings down and can help weight loss.
Oh, and DDT was a good thing. It's ban took many millions of lives in areas of the world that find it difficult to fight malaria and like diseases.

Actually, DDT is a good thing, hippie junk science books notwithstanding.

Actually, depending on an individual's biochemistry, eating a small amount of sugar before meals can cube appetite at a low cost in calories. A big part of the sensation of hunger comes from low-blood sugar. Killing that with 50 calories of sugar before a meal can pay off if it keeps you from gobbling down 500 calories of ice cream for desert. After all, the old folk wisdom that eating sweets before a meal will kill your appetite is largely true for many people.
Obviously, this won't work for people who are diabetic or have pre-diabetic risk factors. As with all dietary tricks, it requires discipline to work. You can't say, "Hey, sugar kill my appetite! Hand me a candy bar!"

Look up the Shangri-La diet by Seth Roberts.

Banning DDT has killed millions of people by condemning them to die of malaria.

Don't forget guys; the body turns sugar to fat if you don't use all of those sugar laden calories.
Malaria? DDT?
Malaria? DDT?
Gee, I can't decide which is better.

It's not so simple matk. 1 million fatalities a year in Africa, mostly children. Not counting just plain being ill. The jury's still out on DDT's affects on wildlife, if used carefully. Even Rachel Carson agreed with this. Look up the scientific papers for the pros and cons and them maybe you can add more to the conversation.
OT, I remember Ayds! I think I even tried one once. If I remember correctly, it tasted like those chocolate calcium Viactiv chews.

I don't think it's a diet... Diet is a system that should to change youe way of life. Some sugar before meal... It's really doubtful at least. But you can try it for a week or so and see if your intake went lower.

This is actually the entire basis of the Shangra La diet, a book published just a few years ago.

Try a couple of prunes (excuse me, dried plums..) or a small box of raisins about 30 minutes before dinner, or at 3 pm.

Much of the sensation of hunger is low blood sugar. Kill only 50 calories of sugar before a meal can pay if it is prevented from swallowing 500 calories of ice cream for dessert.
