Bar Snacks: Japanese Arare
Instead of traditional bars snacks, why not surprise your next guests, whether expected or not, with something other than a bowl of chips with that glass of wine?
Arare or Japanese rice crackers make a great alternative. With a bag or two of arare in the cupboard, you're ready to entertain at a moment's notice. Some people stock their favorite arare, but I like to serve a variety. Their shapes, textures and flavors are so unusual.
See if you can pick out Nori (seaweed) wrapped arare, twisted Yakko arare, flower-shaped Sakura arare and of course, those ubiquitous Wasabi peas.
If you're an arare fan, what are your favorites?

My favorite arare is the seaweed wrapped one. And of course, I also love the wasabi peas. I usually buy one of those variety pack that has many different types of arare in a pack.

Actually, my local Sam's Club and Costco both sometimes carry these (their in=house brands, I believe) in huge bags. They are delish, so I stock up when I can find them

Trader Joe's has this stuff, too. Tasty and cheap.

I get the big bag of arare at Costco. Then I mix in a couple bags of the wasabi peas - I could eat those by the ton all by themselves! :D

This summer, I served these at a very impromptu get together. I loved them why wouldn't they. Great with vino, I thought. THEY thought I was just being the "healthy" person that I guess I have a reputation for being. Thanks for backing me up on the trendiness of my decision.
