The Man on the Moon is Made of Cheese
I was at an all-girl sleep-away camp 40 years ago today when Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon. The whole camp gathered with their sleeping bags in the rec hall to watch the event on three small black-and-white television sets set up on chairs at the front of the room.
We learned for sure that night that the man on the moon was not made of cheese, yet cheese did make a splash at the International Space Station when Italian Umberto Guidoni brought Parmigiano Reggiano cheese up with him in 2001. It was, interestingly enough, the first non-dehydrated food in space. (Thanks, Gabriele, for sharing this information with me!)
Why not celebrate the moon walk with an easy appetizer made of Parmigiano Reggiano? Simply drizzle small chunks of Parmesan with thick, well-aged balsamic vinegar and serve. It's an Italian favorite typical of the Emilia-Romagna region, but it's truly out of this world!
