Taco Trucks: Mobile Meal Maestros

This morning's food discussion at the office: taco trucks. Looks like there are some decent choices around Seattle for a quick taco fix. Anyone have a favorite taco truck they'd like to give a shout out to? My favorite is still the one that served us lunch (and amaaaazing breakfast burritos) in the parking lot of Gehry Partners in Culver City, CA.

I've heard rumors of Tom D. doing a taco truck a while back...Any update to that? I wouldn't mind a Tom D. taco truck roaming around the pioneer square area for lunch. ;)

Rancho Bravo Tacos, in Wallingford.

Edwards Air Force Base had a great one in the mid to late 80s. And by the way, these are affectionately known as Roach Coaches.

We here in Texas call that a "Roach-Coach" and for good reason.

I'm in the process of starting a social experiment via the web, and am in need of someone that can write really well. The details of the project is laid out on my website at www.accreation.org. I'm looking for someone that can edit the content in a more easily understandable format. Please visit the site, and contact me if you or someone you know might be interested in participating in the project. Thank you.

PS. This is NOT a paid position; I'm looking for like minded individuals who are interested in making this prjoect become a success. Thank you.

Stopped at a great 'roach-coach' in Ellensburg on recent a road trip from Seattle to Spokane. It's on the main fast food drag off of I-90, about 1.5 miles north, just past the KFC.

I'm originally from San Diego, so my street taco standards are very high. This place rocked! Best tacos I've had since leaving SoCal!

Get the pork, and don't forget the lime! Muy Beuno!

Ever driven behind one of these? The smell of rancid boiling fry oil won't leave the car until you pass the truck and open all your windows.

I have eaten a a lot of "catering wagons" across the Southwest and have never E V E R seen a reason to use the degrading term.

I see such trucks around where my daughter lives in Kansas City but have not yet had occasion to try one. Ive eaten at restaurants that support some of them and the food there is has always been good.

If you find yourself in White Center, I recommend Taqueria La Fondita #2 (http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-la-fondita-2-seattle). Yummy sopitos, mulitas (sp?), tortas, burritos, etc. I esp. like their adobada. AND they're open 11am - 11pm EVERY darn day. AND you can call in to-go orders, which is good since the eating area isn't the prettiest.

Koblog: Yep! That's why they're so yummy!!

Only a politically correct libertopian doofis would call them "taco trucks". 99.9% of us in L.A. call them roach coaches 'cause they are unlicensed, uninspected and can be found parked within a block or two of the dumb sucker who rented a brick and mortar work place, paid for a business license, pays taxes etc. You'll find them in the working class neighborhoods full of "undocumented" welfare parasites. You absolutely will not find them in Malibu, Pacific Palisades or Brentwood.

The best and most innovative food in this country can be found in the Mexican community. Mexican food is highly evolved, delicious, and healthy, if like all other food, taken in reasonable portions. The Taco trucks are no exception. Love 'em.

And since it has a fixed address I'll toss in Tacqueria Tepa about 3 miles East of I-5 on March Lane in Stockton, Ca. It's next to a closed Mervins store on the North side of March lane. Family run, wonderful people and simple food prepared to order. Tacqueria Carolina across the street is also very good. Recommend them both.

If you consider cow guts, wrapped in a white flour tortilla and deep fried in pig lard to be "innovative food", then Glenn is correct.

What you call "cow guts" they call "menudo" and you family calls "pepper pot soup".

I don't care for it my self, nor do I like steak and kidney pie and several other delicacies proper white people like.

And to answer the earlier question--I've never smelled rancid grease near one. I can't even think what they would have much grease aboard for.

And yeah, I call them roach coaches too, but not in a hateful crowd.

We made a blog to track these trucks in the Columbus, Ohio area:

A long time ago on the north coast of Oahu we got tacos and cokes from Pancho Goldstein's Taco Stand, run out of the back of an old International Metro.

Oakland CA...corner of High St and San Leandro. One day I watched a future megamillionaire rap star hawking his casette tapes while a group of Hmong in traditional clothing were waiting in-line, along with the the ususal low-riders, feather merchants (literally, pillow salesmen), japanese artists, and a handfull of white people..all very much into the experience while la cucaracha played on somebody's pimped out car horn. And the food...excellent, it moved so fast it never had time to incubate regardless of the visuals...Tacos Zamorano, IIRC.

It is great that people are thinking about the environment and working to make the world a safer place. Not only the materials that you are using on your home are safe for the environment but dump trucks have come a long way since the earlier models. We are learning and expanding and coming up with a wide range of safer more effective vehicles for the work force. I think it is great that many auto manufacturers are turning to hybrid vehicles to protect the environment and now they are even using hybrid dump trucks.

I love the idea of a taco truck. Unfortunately, I have never have eaten at one. But I love the concept.

Taco trucks are great! Good taco's on the go...plus you can buy one while your walking to go buy a bucket truck! Yummy!

I think it is not new to the audience. Trucks used is food business now is very common.

LOL @ "Roach Coach" Seems fitting. Even so, would that stop me from eating at one? Heck no!!! I love authentic tacos. The idea of the chicken actually being cat at Chinese restaurants also doesn't stop me from indulging in the occasional buffet either. Love tacos!!!

Too bad taco trucks don't exist in my area.
