Sink Your Teeth into the Cuisine
Just before midnight on April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland, and, less than three hours later, the now-legendary ship once hailed "unsinkable" was gone. This week, all Titanicphiles should be on board to celebrate the majesty, and mourn the hubris, surrounding this irresistible tragedy by reading Walter Lord's classic A Night to Remember, by watching the appropriately immoderate James Cameron film, by listening to its beautifully plaintive James Horner score, and by preparing appetizers, salads, entrées, and desserts, from chicken lyonnaise to Waldorf pudding, served aboard the ocean liner during its maiden, and final, voyage. Last Dinner on the Titanic includes menus offered to first-, second-, and third-class passengers; full recipes; and, best of all, instructions for hosting a Titanic dinner party complete with wardrobe and table-setting ideas. Let's hope the only iceberg your guests encounter is part of the salad! And I'd love to receive an Evite--or a Morse code invite!

Wonderful post, Monsieur! I have the cookbook and can heartily recommend it. I only wish I had time to both whip up a "Titanic"-style dinner and spend however many hours watching the movie tonight!

Amazon has the Gin and Titonic ice cube tray. It makes little ice bergs and little Titanics that will float in your cocktails!
