Happy Hour Drink Recipe: Sonic Cherry Limeade

Soniccherry My thoughts of Sonic cherry limeade this morning really got me wanting one. And, because Sonic continues to torment me by not opening a drive-in in Seattle (Sonic, are you listening?!), I guess I'm going to have to make my own. I found this recipe on RecipeZaar, and it sounds reasonable, though I don't know if it's truly the Sonic version. Now, for those of you happy hourers who think all happy hour drinks should contain alcohol--well, this one's for all the pregnant ladies out there, sweltering in the summer heat! (And besides, I suppose you could just add a shot of vodka, if you really needed to.)

Sonic Cherry Limeade

Ingredients:
1 12-ounce can Sprite
3 lime wedges
1/4 cup cherry juice

Directions:
1. Fill a 16-ounce glass two-thirds full with ice. Pour Sprite over the ice.
2. Squeeze the lime wedges over the drink and then drop them in.
3. Add the cherry juice and stir briefly. Serve with a straw.

Makes one 16-ounce drink.

Being born and raised in Seattle I feel your pain about no Sonics. You just need to do what I did and move to someplace with them :).

This looks almost like what they do but without the special Sonic Ice (which stores let you buy by the bag) it's just not the same.

The Sprite kind of surprises me, but I guess it makes sense for an extra-sweet drink. I always thought they were made with soda water and that maraschino cherry syrup.

I made the sonic drink just like recommended. The only other thing
I did different was to pour it into the blender! Fantastic!

A friend used to work at a Sonic and the syrup they use is a thick cherry syrup, not marachino cherry syrup at all. None of my local stores carry it..but you might find it online. Hope this helps. If you find a location to buy it, I'd like to know too :)

My friend knows a sonic manager, so Im getting my syrup directly from the source

i work at a sonic in Florida and if you are only using 12 oz of sprite thats like a small drink and that would only get 1 lime and 1/4 oz cherry juice, 20 oz gets 2 limes and 1/2 oz cherry, 32oz gets 3 limes and 3/4 oz, and 44oz gets 4 limes and 1 oz cherry, also your right the cherry syrup we use is much thicker than cherry juice.

I use cherry snow cone syrup it is thick and almost as sweet as what sonic uses, you can buy it at Wal-Mart
