Tater Tots for Adults

Adulttatertots Pity those who went to grade school before 1954. In the same year that "under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance, Tater Tots were added to supermarkets, school lunches, and our nation's gastronomic heritage. Americans now eat 70 million pounds of Ore-Ida's french fry by-product.

For those who think Tater Tots are just for kids, think again. Tots have popped up everywhere from Burger King to your local bar and the interwebs are full of recipes for more grown-up versions of this popular cafeteria staple.

Gee, I wonder why tots are on the brain?
Had some excellent ones at Jules Maes Saloon in Georgetown this weekend. They're served with tartar sauce and once you have two or three of these golden-crusted tater muffins, you realize they have a little spicy to them as well.

They should make more foods from the cafeteria gourmet. Can you imagine the gourmet Pizza Boat? Then again, it's not a Pizza Boat if it doesn't have the texture of soggy cardboard.

We can't call these what they are? Croquettes?

Tater Tots, Croquettes, whatever. They're good out of the box or dolled up for sophisticated pallettes.

Because, Robert, this is America.

Tater Tots were first created in 1953 when Ore-Ida founders F. Nephi Grigg and Golden Grigg [4][5] were trying to figure out what to do with left over slivers of cut up potatoes. They came up with the novel idea of chopping up the potato slivers, adding flour and seasoning, then pushing the mash through holes and slicing off pieces of what came out on the other side. Tater Tots were born.[1] They first became available in stores in 1954. Today, Americans consume approximately 70 million pounds of "Tots" per year

But why only for adults? Why kids can't have it?

I think the top chef are french ! Don't you agree ?

Oh my heck, tater tots with brie, shallots, and bacon? I already know they'll be my foodie kryptonite. I can't wait to try them out and blog about how delicious they are. Thanks for posting!
