Weird Food Cravings
MSNBC.com recently posted some of the weird food cravings their readers have. Apparently craving peanut butter burgers or banana bacon sandwiches doesn't mean you're missing something from your diet. "Scientists haven't been able to link cravings in humans to specific nutritional deficiencies, says Joy Bauer, TODAY's nutrition expert and author of "Food Cures" (Rodale, 2007)."
Around the Al Dente office, cravings include pickles and cheese with smoked salmon, bacon with chocolate, Lay's sour cream and onion chips with M&M's, and Pringles dipped in coffee yogurt.
So, Al Dente readers, what are your weird food cravings? Maybe ice cream and ramen?

I've always liked putting peanuts in my Coke. It has to be a CAN of Coke and then you just put the salted peanuts in through the top and drink it that way! Very good for road trips!

Joe's Fried Egg Sandwhich -
First, fry up an egg with lots of salt and pepper. Then, place the egg between toast that has butter, jelly and two slices of American cheese!
Oh man , thats good :)

Most of these cravings are just variations on combining a salty food (Lays, Bacon, peanuts, pringles) with a sweet food (M&Ms, chocolate, M&Ms, coke, yogurt). The individual combinations may each sound weird, but they're just specialized versions of chococlate-covered peanuts, or even Reeses cups.

There was a guy in my dorm who would always order a peanut butter, bacon, and sardine when we went to Elsie's sandwich shop in Harvard Square.

I love my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with peanut butter on both slices of bread and jelly between them. On the side I have to have Lay's sour cream & onion potato chips and a big glass of milk.
Yum!!!

I used to take American Cheese slices and put mashed potatoes in the middle and make a sandwich out of it. I also love the European custom of french fries dipped in mayo. And definitely not the peanut butter and bologna sandwich but my Grandpa and I would have wonderbread, mayo, bologna and onion sandwiches. Man, I'm making myself hungery.

Clam snow cones, anyone?
Vicki on February 25, 2008 at 01:53 PM
White bread with plenty of mayo (not Miracle Whip) and then add either slices of pineapple, tomato with salt or sliced bananas. Then there's always the white bread, peanut butter, sugar and mini-marshmellows.

My mother used to make me bologna, cheese, and grape jelly sandwiches when I was young.
They were best when left in a fridge for half the day so the jelly would soak into the bread.
yummmm...

Lot's of these seem to involve peanut butter...
Occasionally, I get a craving for creamy peanut butter and grape jam mixed together in a bowl to be used as a dip for nacho cheese Doritos. Mmmm...

Bologna sandwich on white bread mustard/mayo + smashed potato chips for salty crunchy texture. I discovered this in Kindergarden, and frankly, it's the only way a white bread bologna sandwich can be eaten.
