Drink Olive Oil, Live To Be 120-Years-Old
Mariam Amash, an active inhabitant of a quaint Israeli village, makes sure to drink at least one glass of olive oil every day. And since she was born in 1888, she's had at least 43,800 glasses--roughly 2,737 gallons of olive oil.
Olive oil can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as regulate blood sugar level and knock out nasty free-radicals. More info can be found here. Apparently it has worked fairly well for Mariam, you know, seeing as she's been around since the Turkish Empire was in control.
With 120 grandchildren, 250 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren, I bet she spends most of her time making out $10 checks.

Sorry, if drinking olive oil makes me look like this 120 year-old woman, I'll pass.

How big is the glass?

Why would anyone WANT to be 120 years old? Are her offspring and their offspring that wonderful then, that she'd want to be around them? Man, the idea is so EXHAUSTING.

A "glass" is estimated at 8 ounces.

I find this rather incredulous, considering there are 23 grams of fat in a tablespoon of olive oil, that would be around 1000 grams of fat per day. The average woman can only handle about 30 grams of fat per day without becoming obese. She would have died from obesity or liver toxicity trying to process that much fat. Perhaps she meant a cup a week??

Nice punchline.

Mariam is my hero...I'm going to try drinking olive oil, too. I don't think I can do a glass but I'll try tablespoons of the stuff.
Who knows, maybe I'll live to be 120 years old, too.

She "said" she drinks a glass of olive oil a day. I say I don't eat sweets.....
I would like someone to confirm her actual consumption and what the rest of her diet looks like if she's consuming so many calories in oil. Who knows maybe at a cup a day it gets "used" efficiently by the body or goes through the digestive system such that the 1000 calories are not absorbed.
Really some scientest needs to get to the bottom of this before we all gain 2 pounds a week trying to live forever! And I am all for more olive oil in my diet for all the good reasons, I have just always been afraid of the calories and any other negative effects.
Educate us with new research.

haha, there are people who live on more than 100 grams of fat per day and are very thin. It does not matter where the source of your calories come from...fat, carbs, protein...it only matters that you keep your calories low.
