Avocado On My Mind
Every now and then, a cook's tool catches my eye, and I just can't stop thinking about it, obsessing about it, and generally thinking I probably HAVE TO HAVE IT. Right now, it's a tie between two really cool looking avocado tools from Rick Bayless.
First up: the silicone avocado scooper. Now, you know what, I do not need this tool. I am perfectly capable of scooping out avocado with a large spoon. But, the design is so intriguing, so cool, so green. I might have to buy it anyway. These cook's tools manufacturers--they've got my number.
Then, if I have the scooper, don't I also need the guacamole masher? Again with the cool. Again with the green. Probably also has more uses than just avocado. Smashed potatoes for one? Egg salad for the family? Play-Doh tool for my son?
Am I crazy? Look at my overstuffed kitchen drawers and you probably know the answer.
Are there kitchen tools you lust after? That you know there's no earthly reason to spend money on, but you somehow just can't resist?

I lusted after (and bought) a sundae set complete with goblets and long spoons. I've had it for years and have never taken it out of the box.

Some of the stuff like the heart-shaped Le Creuset or colorful silicone spatulas always intrigue me.
But...I know they're completely redundant to what I already have. Like Chris, I'm with Alton Brown, the only uni-tasker allowed in the kitchen is a fire extinguisher. Besides, a big chef's knife and a soup spoon do a good job at dissecting an avocado.
